INTRODUCTION: 

Montenegro is a part of the Balkan Peninsula and it is a sovereign republic in South-eastern Europe. The name of ‘Montenegro’ refers to the black mountains that cover large parts of the region.

Montenegro has been part of Serbia for 61 years with the name of Serbia and Montenegro, and then it gained its independence by an EU-organized referendum on 21 May 2006.

The language of Montenegrin was newly added to the list of language codes recognized by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) which identified it as a separate language from Serbian.
