Malta citizenship

2,511 individuals obtained Malta citizenship in 2023

Malta offers a second citizenship program (Malta Citizenship) to be the first and only European Union country to offer investment citizenship. It is worth noting that Malta citizenship is one of the most distinguished citizenship programs in recent times.

The Parliamentary Counsel asks about the rates of Malta citizenship holders:

MP Graziella Galea asked about the number of people who will obtain Malta citizenship in 2023.

The response from Interior Minister Byron Camilleri was that the total number of individuals holding Maltese citizenship reached 2,511 individuals.

  • The month of March took first place, as the number of individuals reached 289 individuals. The month of May came in second place with 275 individuals.
  • The lowest rate is the last month of the year, December, so that the number of people holding Maltese citizenship is only 90 individuals.

When did the citizenship program begin in Malta?

Applications for citizenship by investment in Malta began to be received in 2014, after some amendments were made to the citizenship law at that time.

How to obtain Malta investment citizenship:

  • The first method: renting a property + making a contribution to the National Development Fund + investing in government bonds.
  • The second method: Buying a property + making a contribution to the National Development Fund + investing in government bonds.
